Our story began in October 2013 after a blind set-up by mutual friends and from there, the adventures began. Both being lovers of wine, we began making home made wine: drier reds for Matt and sweeter whites for Robyn. This new hobby allowed us to share great wine with our friends and soon they wanted to purchase our wine, as it was "California" quality. That's when we began to dream of one day opening a winery.
In October 2015, we officially became Mr. and Mrs. Lyons and in April of 2016, we purchased a farm home and property on Old Highway 280 in Chelsea, AL. That property would become the realization of our dreams quicker than we had ever imagined.
We, along with our three children, currently reside in the upper levels of the farm home. The winery is located in the basement and is easily accessed from the back of the home. We are advocates of animal rescue and it shows with our 2 horses, 3 dogs, 4 cats, miniature donkey, and 200+ LB pig .
Stop by any Saturday, enjoy a bottle of wine and share in our dream with us.
Matt and Robyn Lyons
Matt and Robyn, the Cat and the Bird, are the entrepreneurs behind the winery. What originally started out as a fun hobby has grown into an exciting small business delivering more than just wine. They have had 100s of events from baby showers to weddings, created a Young Entrepreneur college scholarship, and always are looking for ways to give back to the local community,
Emily is often referred to as the “cub” of Cat-n-Bird Winery as she is a part of the Lyons family. Pinot Noir is her favorite wine to share with friends. Emily does our social media marketing, loves party planning, and loves coming up with fun drink concoctions!
Karen is “Bringing Karen Back” (one of her many famous sayings you’ll hear her say around the winery). She’s been part of our team since 2018. Nebbiolo is her drink of choice, and she’ll always have a new wine themed t-shirt on in addition to the t-shirts she makes for us.
Sheri has been with us since the beginning and helps with our email newsletter and scheduling all of our food trucks and live performers. Her sweet family visits often and always leaves with bottles of our Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir.
Michelle actually got married at the winery in 2019 and joined our team in summer 2021! If she’s not at the winery she’s working out or sunbathing at the beach. Her favorite wine at the moment (so hard to choose just one!) is our Cabernet Sauvignon.
Krista is our go-to for all things artsy, cooking, and medical. She’s never opposed to getting messy and putting in hard work. When she’s at the winery, at home with her fur babies, or with her Cat-n-Bird family, you’ll see her with our Sauvignon Blanc in hand.
Jasmine has been with us since 2021! You’ll mostly see her during the summer as she is a Special ED teacher by day. She’s a very hard worker and likes to un”wine” with any of our wines because she loves them all!
Melissa has been with the Cat n Bird dream team since 2021. In her words, "This is her happy place!" Her favorite wines are ALL of the reds.
Jill has been working at Cat-n-Bird since January 2023, though she's been sipping and enjoying their wines since 2020! Jill's favorite red is Pinot Noir and her favorite whites are La Rubia Gewurztraminer. She will also never say "no" to a glass of our Sparkling Rosé!

She also works with Cat-n-Bird social media and the website behind the scenes. Jill is a full time middle school teacher and dog mom of 2.
Allie started working at Cat-n-Bird Winery in January 2024. She has been visiting the winery since 2020 with her friends and family, and she is sisters with fellow Dream Team member Jill!
Her favorite CnB wine is the Pinot Grigio and she is a full time nurse during the week.
Chelsea has worked at Cat-n-Bird since early 2022 and you can normally find her there smiling on most Saturdays. Chelsea has worked at Cat-n-Bird since early 2022 and you can normally find her there smiling on most Saturdays. Always excited to greet and meet new people, Chelsea's sparkling and bubbly personality pairs well with Prosecco, which also happens to be her favorite wine we serve. When not at the winery, Chelsea works full time as both an early childhood educator and a dog mom of 4 crazy dogs. While she loves and enjoys spending time with all of her students and pets, she especially looks forward to the weekend when she can finally wind down at her home away from home here at Cat-n-Bird.
Courtney is 24 and has been working at the winery since spring of 2022! She loves all things music and loves to spend time with her family. Her favorite Cat-n-Bird wines are La Rubia and Velluto!
Mike started working here in May of 2024, but if you've been here before, you may have seen him helping out with events. He's married to Melissa and you can find him slinging beers, pouring slushy's, and lifting heavy things! He's also a wedding officiant and has performed a wedding here at CnB!
Steve started working at CnB in June of 2024. He has been in radio for more than 30 years. He loves NASCAR and all things auto racing! His favorite wine is La Rubia. He started hanging out at the winery so he could spend time with his wife Karen, who is always here!
Pedro is a miniature donkey and has been part of the Lyons family since 2016. He loves carrots, apples, and attention. Feel free to give him pets, just watch your fingers! He likes to nibble.
Monty is a blind rescue pig and he's the winery's garbage disposal for all of our events. We ask for all leftovers (that isn't pork- because that would be weird) to be saved for Monty. He loves when he hears a party, because he knows he is about to be well fed.
Skipper is a rescue horse and has been part of the Lyons family since 2017. Skipper has 4 white socks, so to tell the horses apart, just look at their feet!
Prince is the brother of a horse that Sophie, Matt and Robyn's daughter, used to ride and show. They got him on the day the musician Price died, so his full name is Prince's Purple Rain.
